After a successful 2015 campaign, Magellan Jets re-launched its college tours package in early April. The 10 hour jet cards are available through June 2016 and give parents the opportunity to be there every step of the way in the most important decision of their child’s life. Recently, Zoe Henry of Inc Magazine, caught up with Magellan Jets co-founder and president, Anthony Tivnan to delve into the benefits of this program for parents and children.
It is now the time of year when prospective college students travel to see the schools they’ve been accepted to–and a private jet service wants to let parents conduct those visits in style.
Earlier this month, Magellan Jets, a jet membership company based in Quincy, Mass., announced a promotion for its clients: Through June, users can take advantage of the “Magellan Jets 10 Hour College Tour Jet Card.” Simply provide the company with a list of schools your family plans to visit, and Magellan will work out the logistics, including the route to be taken between campuses, car services, and a “reference guide” on board for picking the right school.
Unlike a traditional jet service, Magellan partners with private jet owners, renting out the vehicles and paying the owners upfront. It also hires pilots who are well-versed in weather, safety, and the mechanics of operating a jet to handle the scheduling.
The college tours package doesn’t come cheap–it starts at $50,000, and get up to as high as $100,000. The card starts at 10 hours, and can be extended, depending on specific needs. For reference, a typical one-way flight through Magellan starts at $3,000 per hour, and get up to $14,500 per hour. An annual membership with Magellan costs $100,000.
“This particular service really takes the anxiety out of planning something like this,” says Anthony Tivnan, co-founder and president of Magellan. “I’m going to go through this next year with my own son — and I don’t even want to think about it.”
Founded in 2008, Magellan Jets landed the 2015 Inc. 5000 list at No. 3365, having grown its sales by 98 percent between 2011 and 2014, when it brought in $19.2 million. Tivnan notes that the majority (about 75 percent) of clients are business owners or corporations.
The company’s focus on safety and security — all pilots are required to have at least 3,000 hours of experience, for instance — helped it to become the first private jet charter broker in the world to be named to the Air Charter Safety Foundation in 2013, a non-profit that develops safety programs for the aviation industry.
The company is also the designated favorite of Robert Herjavec, the famed entrepreneur and Shark Tank investor.
“The most valuable resource you have is time,” Herjavec said in an interview with Forbes. “I like Magellan because I can always obtain an aircraft when needed, and I am assured of a high level of service.”
When it comes to the decision that will shape the next four years and beyond, Magellan Jets knows how crucial, yet challenging, it can be for parents to be present during college visits. The college tours package assures parents the opportunity to be there for all aspects of the decision process.
