Pilot Review: Gulfstream G650

The $65 million business jet that had a 3+ year wait list to even place an order is coming soon to the Magellan Jets Membership program.  So what’s it like to fly on what many refer to as the biggest and overall best private jet money can buy?  It’s hard to find a place to start, but here’s what separates the G650 from the competitive pack.

A Cabin Designed For Productivity

Engineers took every last detail into consideration when designing this aircraft, even the air passengers breathe.  The G650 has the lowest cabin altitude of any business jet and pumps 100% fresh oxygen every two minutes into the cabin.

What does that mean?  At 45,000 feet, passengers feel like they are at 3,000-4,000 feet, which is much lower than almost every jet in the industry.  This creates reduced fatigue and helps passengers feel just as refreshed when they land as when they took off.

Out Of This World Speed

Although at one point it was true to say the Gulfstream G650 was the fastest business jet on the planet, it now only sits behind the Citation X+ in the record books.  Able to travel almost at the speed of sound, the G650 reaches a max cruise speed of Mach .925.

With 8 passengers on board, the G650 can fly up to 7,000 nautical miles nonstop.  No city is out of reach and you’ll be able to get there, in most cases, 30-60 minutes faster given the speed of the G650.

The ultra-long range of the G650 can fly nonstop (just to name a few):

  • Teterboro to Cape Town
  • Teterboro to Beijing
  • LA to Moscow

* NBAA IFR theoretical range. Actual range will be affected by ATC routing, operating speed, weather, outfitting options and other factors

The high speeds of the G650 are not just limited to describing its Mach.  Whether it be a multi-channel satellite communication system, a wireless on board network, or a cabin audio system, high speed connectivity is present in every aspect of the cabin.
One of the most innovative in-cabin perks is the Gulfstream Cabin Management System.  This feature allows touch screen control for things like temperature and window shades to be at the tip of your smartphone.

Larger Cabin

The interior of the G650 is in a class of its own — literally.  At 8 feet 6 inches wide, the largest cabin in the class can comfortably fit 18 passengers.

The Avionics system is about as technologically advanced as any aircraft on the market.  Low visibility conditions are not an issue with a dsiplay system able to create a digital view of the plane’s surroundings.  Infrared images appear directly in the pilot’s display screens from the enhanced vision system along with a camera to see what’s under the plane.

Maximum Operating Speed:

0.925 Mach

Like we mentioned, there is plenty to love about the Gulfstream G650.  It is hard to find any aircraft that can match this business jets’ combination of speed, size and range.  The G650 will be a welcome addition to the already impressive collection in our jet-specific membership programs.
