Private Jet of the Day: Gulfstream G650

For those seeking an ultra-large-cabin, ultra-high-speed aircraft, look no further than the Gulfstream G650 business jet. With the ability to fly faster, longer and more comfortably than any other jet in its class, the G650 represents the gold standard in business aviation. The G650 has the ability to carry eight passengers on nonstop legs of 7,000 nautical miles. That means this Jet is capable of connecting New York with Dubai and London with Buenos Aires.

G650 One Step Closer to Service

Private jet setters are another step closer to flying faster, higher and further than ever before as the G650 has reached another certification milestone. FAA test pilots have signed off on the elite aircraft’s fuel, hydraulic and fly-by-wire control systems in addition to other significant components. Gulfstream currently has four test planes in the G650 program which have accumulated 2,675 hours across 820 flights; the longest being 14 consecutive hours covering a distance of 7,000 nautical miles. What this means for the executive traveler is a new world of possibilities when it comes to private aviation. The G650’s capabilities will allow a group of 8 executives to wisp nonstop at 51,000 feet from New York to Tokyo; far beyond the altitude of any weather or airline traffic.

Tracking Private Jets isn’t Always Easy!

Want to be invincible in the sky? Nowadays anyone can track your whereabouts especially while operating in public airspace. The company FlightAware.com grants users accessibility to view a wide range of flights and their scheduled routings. When an aircraft is operating in controlled airspace their identification number must be clearly visible on the fuselage. This goes for private flights too! Pilots talking to air traffic control are broadcasting their whereabouts and intentions on public radio frequencies, making it even easier to listen in on the open skies.

5 Steps to Get a New Charter Jet in the Air

The FAA places very stringent safety measures on any new aircraft. A new type of jet (Gulfstream G550, Bombardier Global Express, Cessna Citation X, etc) must meet many requirements for test flights and performance under extreme conditions. Not anyone can build a plane and have it certified to carry paying passengers! There are many safety steps that have to be taken when a new jet is being tested, but here are some of the biggest (and most interesting!)

John Travolta can Park his Private Jet at his Private Home Airport

John Travolta’s Private Jet Airport
John Travolta has been a fan of private aviation for some time. He currently owns a Gulfstream II and Boeing 707 that are both able to taxi right up to two buildings connected to his house. People may have seen Travolta flaunt his private jet on “MTV Cribs” a few years ago. What you may not have known is that his $2.5 million home features a jetway for him to have direct access to his private airliner without even going outside. The 6,400 square foot house is located in Ocala, Florida and is in the exclusive fly-in community of Jumbolair.  Of course Magellan can provide any size aircraft, although customers are on their own to get them to the front door!

Peter Jackson’s $68 Million Gulfstream G550

Director Peter Jackson recently acquired a new Gulfstream G550 for an estimated price of $68 million. The private jet is one of the nicest jets on the market and can fly from New Zealand to Los Angeles non-stop. Jackson previously had a Gulfstream IV but was plagued with too many fuel stops, so he decided to trade up. The G550 can accommodate up to 16 passengers. Some of the seats can even be converted to beds, although those may require some pajamas. Jackson is a vintage aircraft collector and owns 29 World War I aircraft, some original and some replicas. Although we don’t charter vintage planes, Magellan Jets does have the capability of accommodating customers who would like large Gulfstream jets just like Mr. Jackson’s, all with the highest levels of safety and comfort and for far less cost than owning your own.
