Super Bowl 2022

2022 Super Bowl 56 In LA: Flying Private To The Big Game

Super Bowl LVI will be held on Sunday, February 13 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California. While we don’t yet know which two teams will face off in Super Bowl 56, we do know that you should book your transportation and accommodations as far ahead as possible if you’re headed to the Big Game—especially if you’re traveling by private jet. Here’s everything you need to know as you plan your trip.

book your super bowl travel EARLY

Don’t wait until you know your favorite team is playing—there are a number of reasons you’ll want to book your private jet travel to the Super Bowl now, not later.

Historically High Volume

Super Bowl weekend is typically a period of high traffic volume for private jets, with hundreds more takeoffs and landings in and around the host city than usual as celebrities, athletes, and spectators arrive. With all that increased air traffic, additional time and planning is needed to ensure you’ll have a smooth trip without delays or headaches. Plan ahead, and if you have travel flexibility, book around the expected high volume periods. Be prepared to book everything early, not just your private jet travel but also your hotel accommodations, catering, and any car services you may require. Magellan’s Flight Support and Guest Excellence teams will be glad to help you plan a perfect Super Bowl experience that continues after you step off the plane.

FAA Procedures and reservation slots

As part of their overall Super Bowl safety plan, the FAA institutes special procedures at airports and FBOs in the host city and surrounding area. Landing times will need to be reserved in advance, and according to the National Business Aviation Association, “compared to the last two Super Bowl events in Florida, reservation slots for Super Bowl LVI arriving traffic will be more limited.” Booking in advance will allow your private aviation provider to secure the necessary reservations to accommodate your preferred arrival time, and help them anticipate any challenges brought on by the FAA’s traffic management initiatives.

Aircraft Availability Crunch

An already busy flight weekend will be even more challenging due to current conditions across the private aviation market. Because of an incredible increase this year in demand for private flights, the entire industry has experienced an aircraft availability crunch. The situation has become even more challenging due to the global supply chain crisis caused by the ongoing pandemic. These market conditions are expected to continue even beyond Super Bowl weekend—Magellan Jets has advised guests to book any and all travel through March as far ahead of time as possible.

WINTER WEATHER AND De-icing

Just because the game is being played in sunny California doesn’t mean weather won’t be a factor. If you’re flying to the Super Bowl from a part of the country that typically sees wintry weather—it will be held in February, after all—then you should be prepared for the possibility of de-icing operations. Booking in advance will give your provider more time to anticipate and prepare you for possible weather interruptions. SUPER BOWL events and entertainment

Wondering who’s playing the halftime show this year? Fans will be treated to a performance by Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and Mary J. Blige, put on by Pepsi and Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.

Throughout the week leading up to game day, Lowe’s will host the NFL Experience at the Los Angeles Convention Center, where fans can meet current and former football legends, compete in a 40-yard dash against NFL players, and see both the Vince Lombardi Trophy and all 55 Super Bowl rings.

In addition, there are a number of exclusive and star-studded events around Los Angeles. For example, the night before the AFC and NFC champions square off, Maxim is throwing their 1980s-themed Electric Nights party, hosted by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson—and earlier that day, the NFL and GENYOUth will host Taste of the NFL, a “purpose-driven culinary experience” to combat hunger, at the Petersen Automotive Museum.
