With race day quickly approaching on May 6th, those traveling to the Kentucky Derby are getting ready for the “most exciting two minutes in sports.” Flying into airports in the “Derby region” can become hectic during this high-traffic time. Here is what you need to know if you’re flying private to the Kentucky Derby this year:
KSDF – Louisville International Airport-Standiford Field – 12000′
10 minutes to Churchill Downs
Atlantic Aviation
– Only FBO on the field
Catering
- Beha Catering will be on site to complete and manage all catering requests.
- There will be a separate station within FBO for catering.
- Specific directions for crew regarding catering to be provided upon landing into SDF. There will be an employee by the crew exit asking every pilot if they have received their catering.
Ground Transportation
- Rampside car service will be allowed for chauffeured vehicles.
- There is a separate gate for chauffeured vehicles specifically.
- Hertz is onsite and Hertz representatives will be at FBO to arrange rental vehicle, organized through the FBO.
- Rental vehicles can be returned in the parking lot.
- Rental vehicles are not allowed rampside.
Rampside
- Reservations are strongly encouraged.
- $625 event fee per trip.
- Subject to a $200 cancellation fee if trip is not cancelled or not notified of tail change via email no later than 1200 on 5/8/17.
- Taxiways will be shutting down for parking.
- FBO will be tracking all inbound and outbound tails as well as parking locations.
- FBO requests that passengers remember their tail number so that the FBO can direct them to the correct parking location.
- Shuttles and cars for transportation from FBO to A/C parking available.
KLOU – Bowman Field Airport – 4400′
20 minutes to Churchill Downs
Two FBO’s on the field – Louisville Executive Aviation & Central American Airways
Louisville Executive Aviation
Catering
- There will be free hot dogs and hamburgers at the FBO for passengers and crew if desired.
- No change in standard catering arrangements otherwise.
Ground Transportation
- There will be a shuttle from the FBO to the Derby or hotel.
- Enterprise is the preferred rental vehicle company.
- Rampside car service will be allowed.
- Rental vehicle can be returned right at the FBO.
Rampside
- Reservations preferred ahead of time for ramp space, but not required.
- Per need, clients can request ride from FBO to A/C parking @ FBO front desk.
- No additional fees associated with the Derby.
Central American Airways
- No reservations necessary.
- All other procedures remain the same.
KJVY – Clark Regional Airport – 5500′

Honaker Aviation
– On north end of airport
Catering
- No change in standard catering arrangements.
- Preferred caterer in the area – Cricket’s Caf©.
Ground Transportation
- Enterprise or Hertz are preferred rental vehicle companies.
- Rampside car service will be allowed.
- Rental vehicles can be returned right at the FBO.
- Preferred ground transportation in the area – Limo Worldwide.
Rampside
- Reservations preferred ahead of time for ramp space, but not required.
- No additional fees associated with the Derby.
ASI Aviation
– On south end of airport
Catering
- No change in standard catering arrangements.
- Preferred caterer in the area – Beha Catering.
- There will be either free BBQ or sandwiches for passengers and crew if desired.
Ground Transportation
- Rampside car service will be allowed.
- Enterprise is the preferred rental vehicle company but Hertz services the FBO as well.
- Preferred ground transportation in the area – Extreme Limo.
- Rental vehicles can be returned right at the FBO .
Rampside
- Reservations preferred ahead of time for ramp space, but not required. Reservations for hangars necessary.
- Additional fees for derby:
- $100 for turbo prop, waived with purchase of 100 gal of gas.
- $125 for jet, waived with purchase of 200 gal of gas.
- Hangar fees
- $100 for turbo prop.
- $175 for Jet.
- Per need, clients can request ride from FBO to A/C @ FBO front desk. Golf carts and vans are available.
