Performance
The performance of the Learjet 40XR has proven to be up to par with the rest of the capabilities offered by Bombardier business jets. The aircraft is powered by dual Honeywell TFE731-20BR engines, each producing 3,500 lbs. of thrust. These powerful engines propel the 40XR to a high cruise speed of 521 mph, while allowing it to travel 1,617 nautical miles under NBAA IFR with full passengers. This allows the jet to handle legs like Chicago to San Francisco or Singapore to Hong Kong; Business Jet Traveler reports that it can fly from Jackson Hole, Wyoming to Teterboro, New Jersey in just three hours and 39 minutes. Even with the increased performance, the 40XR remains economical and fuel efficient—it uses only around 212 gallons of fuel per hour and utilizes aerodynamic winglets that help reduce drag while also increasing stability.
Passengers will experience a seamless and speedy journey when traveling on the Learjet 40XR. One of the areas the jet improves upon its predecessors is in its “hot and high” performance; It can take off from 5,090 feet of runway at high altitudes, while only requiring 4,680 feet at sea level and landing in just 2,700 feet. The total time it takes the 40XR to climb to 43,000 feet is only 23 minutes. A surface ceiling of 51,000 feet allows the jet to avoid poor weather conditions and most other air traffic.
