At the 2011 Dubai Air Show, China-based manufacturer Avic was present to debut their MA600 twin turboprop. This aircraft seats 50-60 people and is said to be a vast improvement over its predecessor, the MA60. The MA600 performed daily in the flying display at the show, showcasing all of the new perks it has to offer. Avic attests to the airframe having enhanced fatigue life and maintainability. Empty weight has been reduced and stairs have been incorporated in the passenger door. With the maximum takeoff weight of 48,200 pounds, it can cruise at up to 277 knots. Two MA600’s are operating in China for training reasons right now and the third is being used at the Dubai Air Show. With 16 orders so far, Avic is preparing their follow-up – the MA700, with its first flight set for 2015.
