Getting in and out of New York by private jet on nights and weekends for the next year is getting a bit more challenging. Teterboro Airport (KTEB), the preferred private aviation destination for the busy New York City metro area, is in the middle of a significant runway rehabilitation project. As a result, on certain nights for the next year, one of Teterboro’s two runways will be closed. Operators should expect arrival and departure delays-and on select weekends, the entire airport will be closed to all jet traffic. Here’s everything you need to know about the Teterboro Airport runway closures and how Magellan Jets works to ensure your trip in or out of New York is safe, seamless, and worry-free.

TETERBORO AIRPORT RUNWAY CLOSURES 2022
WHEN WILL TETERBORO AIRPORT BE CLOSED?
Luckily, most of the work on Teterboro’s Runway 6/24 will take place overnight and during generally less busy periods-and the airport’s other runway, 1/19, will be open to operations while that work is taking place. However, because some of the construction will take place where Runway 6/24 intersects with Runway 1/19, the entire airport will need to be closed for the following 38-hour weekend periods:
Friday, July 22, 2022 at 10 p.m. to Sunday July 24, 2022 at noon
Friday, July 29, 2022 at 10 p.m. to Sunday, July 31, 2022 at noon
Friday, August 5, 2022 at 10 p.m. to Sunday, August 7, 2022 at noon
Friday, August 12, 2022 at 10 p.m. to Sunday, August 14, 2022 at noon
There will be an additional yet-to-be-announced pair of Sunday mornings in October and November when the airport will be closed for 12 hours, from midnight to 11:59 a.m.
While the airport will be closed to all fixed-wing aircraft, it’s important to note that helicopter operations will still be permitted during these periods. Since the closures are weather dependent, the final two weekends in August may be used as rain dates.
You can read the Airport Operations Bulletin about these closures here.
WHEN WILL RUNWAY 6/24 BE CLOSED, AND WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?
Runway 6/24 renovation will take place each night from 10:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Sunday through Friday-and on Tuesday mornings, the work will stretch until 8:30 a.m. This schedule began in April 2022 and will continue through the project’s expected end date in April 2023.
For eight weeks in October and November 2022, Runway 6/24 will also close for 12 hours from midnight to 11:59 a.m. on Sundays.
During the periods when Runway 6/24 is closed, NBAA Air Traffic Service Manager Dean Snell warns that operators utilizing Teterboro may experience disruptions, and that they should be prepared for delays upon arrival and departure.
“As with any flight planning, operators should ensure they are fully informed of the scheduled closure times when using TEB,” Snell said.
WHAT KIND OF RUNWAY REHABILITATION WORK IS BEING DONE?
According to the NBAA, the project includes overlaying and widening the runway’s existing asphalt pavement, replacing existing lighting with new light-emitting diode fixtures, replacing electrical infrastructure, grooving the pavement, installing pavement markings, and re-grading the runway shoulders.
