As the 2020 hurricane season continues, a major storm is set to impact the East Coast this week. After passing through the Florida area over the weekend, Tropical Storm Isaias is expected to transform into a Category 1 hurricane as it heads to the Carolinas. Here’s everything private jet travelers need to know about Isaias and how to prepare for it.
Hurricane Isaias: Everything You Need to Know
Where will Hurricane Isaias Hit?
According to the National Business Aviation Association, Tropical Storm Isaias will likely become a Category 1 Hurricane at some point on Monday. Isaias should pass east of Georgia and the southern coast of South Carolina before it makes landfall near North Myrtle Beach and the North Carolina state line by early Tuesday morning. The storm will likely bring 3 to 6 inches of rainfall, plus wind gusts over 90 miles per hour.
Since airports from South Carolina up to New York and New Jersey will have a 70% chance of “experiencing tropical storm-force winds,” according to NBAA, expect them to temporarily close due to the weather. Already, the tower at Wilmington International Airport will close on Monday.
Additionally, Isaias will likely impact New England as well. The National Weather Service has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for parts of the region, including Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Isaias should reach New England overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning.

How Can I Prepare?
Like with any hurricane situation, it’s important to make preparations ahead of time. Overall, you should listen to local authorities for any updates. Also, don’t forget to get your home ready for strong winds.
Additionally, you should have a go-bag ready too, just in case the power goes out or you need to evacuate immediately. Your bag should include 90-day medication supply and other essentials, including hand sanitizer, soap, food, water and masks. Don’t forget to charge the batteries for your devices as well.
If you do need to evacuate, it’s critical to have private travel solutions in place ahead of time. Whether it’s for personal or business travel, private jets are usually the last to depart and first to arrive before and after storms. Overall, private aviation’s focus on safety and security provides peace of mind during these times of uncertainty.
