When the weather turns cold, there’s lots of adventure, play, and luxury in some of the top winter destinations in the US. We’ve highlighted three of the most popular destinations to visit this season as well as some top winter activities to do at each one.
Aspen, Colorado
Aspen is a massive ski and snowboard destination. With four ski resorts, there’s plenty of terrain to choose from: Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Snowmass Ski Resort. Aspen also has top-notch spas to soak in some pampering. There’s also ice skating, cross-country skiing, tubing, snowmobiling, and even dog sledding for other winter sports. The Apres Ski scene has been rated in the Top Ten in SKI magazine consistently for all the entertainment, shopping, and restaurants in the town. Aspen has nearly a hundred restaurants to choose from for limitless cuisine.
Jackson Hole, Wyoming
Jackson Hole is a skier’s paradise, with over 500 inches of snow on average. Nestled in the Grand Tetons, Jackson Hole has gorgeous views as well as first-class skiing at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Grand Targhee Resort, and Snow King, the local Town Hill. If you aren’t skiing or snowboarding, you can tour Yellowstone National Park on a snowmobile, or go to Granite Hot Springs for a thermal pool soak. You can also take a sleigh ride through the National Elk Refuge for some wildlife spotting of elk, eagles bison, foxes and wolves. Jackson Hole resorts also offer sledding, ice skating, cross-country skiing and more.
Bozeman, Montana
Bozeman skiing abounds in Bridger Bowl Ski Area and Moonlight Basin. This little mountain town is big on outdoor winter activities, including ice climbing in the popular Hyalite Canyon, one of the best and biggest climbable ice in North America. There is also ice skating, sledding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice fishing at Canyon Ferry Lake or Ennis Lake. Take a soak at Bozeman Hot Springs, or check out other natural hot springs in the area. Ready for some home brew? Visit a local brewery for unique flavor. Bozeman boasts eight breweries in town. While you’re in town, check out the varietal foods at the many eateries.
