Private-jet customers are getting picky. They want more choice. “When you look at the aviation industry, everything looks the same, with love it or leave it terms,” says Anthony Tivnan, president and co-founder of jet operator Magellan Jets. And make sure to bring your lawyer along before crossing the “T’s” and dotting the “I’s” of that 30 to 50 pages of contract, he adds. “To be honest, we were following that same platform,” says Tivnan.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars unveiled a newly redesigned Ghost at the 2014 Geneva Auto Show this week. The new car features a spate of tweaks and redesigns that they hope add a “stronger stance and a sense of extra width and height.” Also new in the Series II are on board Wi-Fi and, borrowed from last year’s Wraith, Satellite Aided Transmission to allow the car to “automatically adapt to its surroundings augmenting the drive experience.”

Iron Maiden lead singer Bruce Dickinson is spearheading publicity for a radical new 300 foot long fuel efficient airship. The craft, known as the HAV304, will travel up to 100 mph for up to 3 weeks at a time carrying over 22,000 lbs of payload. It’s planned as a platform for cargo, surveillance, and communications with Dickinson touting its ability to drop its cargo “right where it needs to be.”
Just when you thought the future of flying was all figured out, Spike Aerospace reveals a new supersonic jet concept. The latest supersonic jet displays a radical new design where the entire cabin wall will be covered in a thin screen. No need to fight over a window seat anymore because the entire wall can be changed into a panoramic window. The jet will use tiny external cameras to create a sensational panoramic vista. By removing the windows it could eliminate any structural issues and reduce the aircraft weight. The smooth exterior will allow the supersonic jet to move quicker since drag will be reduced due to the windows removal.
With the economy finally looking better than it has in years, new business travelers have begun to restore their faith in private aviation again. With attention to, the annual number of people flying privately amounting to over 166 million, there is nothing but positive momentum for private charter companies into 2014.
This new record, like the 38 records before it, reflects the G650’s noteworthy speed and range. The aircraft arrived for the 2014 Singapore Airshow in a record breaking time of 14 hours and 6 minutes from Hawaii. It flew 5,909 nautical miles from Honolulu to Singapore International Airport on Feb 7 with an average speed of Mach 0.85, despite dealing with headwinds exceeding 100 knots. “The G650’s speed and range truly make it a time machine, saving considerable time as clients travel around the world.” Said Scott Neal, senior vice president, worldwide sales and marketing, Gulfstream. Speed may be one of the top features, but the G650 has much more to offer. The cabin is the largest purpose-built business-jet cabin. Allowing clients to conduct conference calls, send emails or relax in pure comfort during flight. The cabin also includes wider seats, larger windows & more aisle room.
Once the National Aeronautic Association validates the new record, the flagship Gulfstream will have accumulated 39 milestones.
With today’s modern technology fog, rain, wind and even violent thunderstorms are generally no trouble for jets. Jets are usually unaffected by icing concerns too since sophisticated systems have been designed to use hot air bled from their engines to keep the wings and surfaces warm. However, the jet can run into trouble if it has sat idled at low power for an extended period of time. The aircraft may then require a deicing to help remove ice buildup. Deicing fluid is a mixture of heated chemical called glycol and water.
Preventing a buildup of snow and ice is a crucial element for safe take off during cold wintery weather. The specific shape of the plane’s wings and rear tail are engineered to provide proper lift for flight. If the snow or ice disrupts the flow of airflow, it could hinder the ability to lift the aircraft.

The Super Bowl game committee has recently released a statement banning tailgating in the parking lot of MetLife Stadium. So forget about setting up your grills and kegs of beer this year. “You will be allowed to have food in your car and have drink in you car. And provided you’re in the boundaries of a single parking space”, Said Committee CEO Al Kelly, “You’ll be able to eat or drink right next to your car. However you’re not going to be able to take out a lounge chair, you’re not going to be able to take out a grill and you’re not going to be able to take up more than one parking space.”
Fans won’t have to worry too much about tailgating considering the chances of them getting a parking spot at the stadium are very slim. Fewer than 13,000 parking spots are expected to be available for the 80,000 fans expected. They are trying to encourage more and more people to take advantage of public transportation. The committee has set up charter buses called the “Fan Express” to pick up & drop off fans at nine locations around the region. Al Kelly expects between 70 and 80 percent of ticket holders to arrive to the game via public transportation. The reason for the limited amounts of spots is results of large security perimeter needed.

After climbing to its highest level since 2008 in October, business aircraft activity “cooled down” last month, according to TraqPak data released yesterday by aviation services company Argus. Overall, flying in this segment fell 2 percent year-over-year.
Continuing the trend seen throughout this year, the Part 135 charter sector once again was the only operational category to post a gain in flying activity, increasing by 3.7 percent versus a year ago. Part 91 activity skidded by 4.3 percent, while fractional flying-still reeling from Avantair’s demise-fell by 5.4 percent last month.
