An App to Cure Your Jet Lag?

While flying privately certainly takes the edge off of jet lag by allowing you to customize your schedule and travel in comfort, your body still reacts to changing time zones! Flying from the US to Europe, East Coast to West Coast or vise versa can switch your wristwatch three to nine hours. Your body says, “Hey, what’s going on here?”
I am sure you have heard many tips to help jet lag- Set your clock to the time zone you are traveling to, avoid alcohol, or chug Nyquil. Well, a team of researchers at the University of Michigan and Yale are trying to change the effect jet lag takes on your body-or at least make it better.

They have released a free iPhone app that loads a complex, jet-lag conquering model right into your smartphone. You simply type in your current location and destination, as well as what kind of light you will have access to, and the app provides a schedule of light exposure that should reset your internal clock. “The app tells you when to turn the lights off at night and when to turn them back on,” researchers say. The team spent 10 years building this model based on data collected from sleep studies.

Currently they are giving the app away for free, with the request that users send their anonymous jet-lag data back to the University of Michigan.

Jet Cards A La Carte

Private-jet customers are getting picky. They want more choice. “When you look at the aviation industry, everything looks the same, with love it or leave it terms,” says Anthony Tivnan, president and co-founder of jet operator Magellan Jets. And make sure to bring your lawyer along before crossing the “T’s” and dotting the “I’s” of that 30 to 50 pages of contract, he adds. (Even then, customers can wind up bloodied; for a horror story full of lessons, see “Fractional Fracas.”
“To be honest, we were following that same platform,” says Tivnan.

Tivnan and Hebert’s build-a-card is playing on a trend they spotted; a number of wealthy individuals owning planes are also buying more flight-time via a jet card. “Flyers are becoming a lot more savvy on efficiency, and are finding innovative ways to use ownership, fractional, and jet cards together,” Tivnan says. G650 Claims Another Speed Record for the Books

This new record, like the 38 records before it, reflects the G650’s noteworthy speed and range. The aircraft arrived for the 2014 Singapore Airshow in a record breaking time of 14 hours and 6 minutes from Hawaii. It flew 5,909 nautical miles from Honolulu to Singapore International Airport on Feb 7 with an average speed of Mach 0.85, despite dealing with headwinds exceeding 100 knots. “The G650’s speed and range truly make it a time machine, saving considerable time as clients travel around the world.” Said Scott Neal, senior vice president, worldwide sales and marketing, Gulfstream. Speed may be one of the top features, but the G650 has much more to offer. The cabin is the largest purpose-built business-jet cabin. Allowing clients to conduct conference calls, send emails or relax in pure comfort during flight. The cabin also includes wider seats, larger windows & more aisle room.
Once the National Aeronautic Association validates the new record, the flagship Gulfstream will have accumulated 39 milestones.

Aircraft & Ice Are Not a Good Combo

With today’s modern technology fog, rain, wind and even violent thunderstorms are generally no trouble for jets. Jets are usually unaffected by icing concerns too since sophisticated systems have been designed to use hot air bled from their engines to keep the wings and surfaces warm. However, the jet can run into trouble if it has sat idled at low power for an extended period of time. The aircraft may then require a deicing to help remove ice buildup. Deicing fluid is a mixture of heated chemical called glycol and water.
Preventing a buildup of snow and ice is a crucial element for safe take off during cold wintery weather. The specific shape of the plane’s wings and rear tail are engineered to provide proper lift for flight. If the snow or ice disrupts the flow of airflow, it could hinder the ability to lift the aircraft.

Tailgating Banned During Super Bowl 2014

The Super Bowl game committee has recently released a statement banning tailgating in the parking lot of MetLife Stadium. So forget about setting up your grills and kegs of beer this year. “You will be allowed to have food in your car and have drink in you car. And provided you’re in the boundaries of a single parking space”, Said Committee CEO Al Kelly, “You’ll be able to eat or drink right next to your car. However you’re not going to be able to take out a lounge chair, you’re not going to be able to take out a grill and you’re not going to be able to take up more than one parking space.”
Fans won’t have to worry too much about tailgating considering the chances of them getting a parking spot at the stadium are very slim. Fewer than 13,000 parking spots are expected to be available for the 80,000 fans expected. They are trying to encourage more and more people to take advantage of public transportation. The committee has set up charter buses called the “Fan Express” to pick up & drop off fans at nine locations around the region. Al Kelly expects between 70 and 80 percent of ticket holders to arrive to the game via public transportation. The reason for the limited amounts of spots is results of large security perimeter needed.
